The smells of egg rolls, hamburgers, brats and cheese curds wafted through the air Friday as hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the first day of St. Anne's Fest.

Scattered rain showers marked the start of the annual three-day festival, which the Catholic Church of St. Anne has hosted for more than five decades, organizer JoAnne Krahn said. But the rain didn't stop people from enjoying carnival and children's games, live music by Led West, a softball tournament and more.
