Be sure to mark your calendars for the 52nd annual Belgian Days sponsored by the Brussels Lions Club in the town park on July 13-14. In addition to the great food, the festivities include youth baseball, adult volleyball, and cooyah (a Belgian card game) tournaments as well as music by Centerline on Saturday night and Modern Day Drifters on Sunday afternoon. Vendors can register for the arts and crafts area by calling (920) 825-7677.

Purchase a $2 raffle ticket for admittance from any Brussels Lions Club member or at the gate. Don't forget the parade at 10 a.m. July 14 - it is always a crowd favorite. Find more information, including the schedule for the entire weekend, online at http://e-clubhouse.org/userfiles/125/file/BD%20 Flyer%202013-July%2013-14.pdf.

School landscape

Last week the final stage in the restoration of the Waniger School was completed when volunteers planted a wonderful selection of old-fashioned plantings including bridal veil, lilac bushes, hydrangeas and a sugar maple tree, all donated by Meissner's Landscaping.

Special thanks to Sue Marchant, Connie Mathey, Mary Gehm and Chriss Daubner for taking time to make the schoolhouse extra special. Drive by or stop in to take a look; the schoolhouse is located on the grounds of Southern Door Schools on County DK.

The Waniger School is open from noon to 3 p.m. every Saturday during the summer for tours.

Breakfast

The Southern Door Family Center's Older Adult Breakfast is scheduled from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Forestville Town Hall, 7705 County H, Maplewood, for any adults ages 55 and older. Enjoy a hearty, homemade breakfast and speaker.

This month's speaker is Mike VanEss from the Aging and Disability Resource Center. Reservation required; call (920) 825-1430 by Tuesday. For more information, visit www.familycentersdc.com.

Weight Watchers

After several rounds of summer picnics and graduation parties, you may find yourself frustrated with some added pounds. Take the first step to a healthy lifestyle at the Brussels Weight Watchers group. Anyone interested in learning more about the program to stop in and attend a free meeting.

The group meets at the building right next door to the Brussels Town Hall at 1400 County DK in Brussels every Tuesday evening. Weigh-in time is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with the meeting from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Almost fair time

The Door County Fair has a new and improved website at www.doorcountyfair.com, as well as a Facebook page. There is a lot to see and do at the fair, so be sure to check out the information and mark your calendars.

Just a reminder that Junior Fair and School Exhibit registration for the Door County Fair is due by Monday.

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July celebration!
