Cool water, bright sun and a boat are the perfect combination for Wisconsin residents enjoying a summer day. But two things can make those days deadly: alcohol and forgetting a life vest.

More than 200 people have diedas a result of boating accidents in Wisconsin since 2002and at least 171 of the victims weren't wearing life jackets, according to law enforcement records.

Alcohol was involved in nearly 30 percent of all the fatal accidents between 2002 and 2012, either consumed by the victim or other people involved in the accident, according to U.S. Coast Guard records. ...
