Jeune Choeur Polyphonique de l'Ariege' (Young Polyphonic Choir of Ariège), a 50-voice youth choir from Foix, France, will perform in Fond du Lac July 9-10.
Le Jeune Choeur Polyphonique de l'Ariege, a 50-voice youth choir from Foix, France, will present a free concert at Holy Family Church, located on the corner of Fourth Street and CTH K, on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. They will also perform at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10 at Buttermilk Creek Park.
Under the direction of Dominique Jean Grettilat, the June 9 program will include traditional and modern French music, along with American gospel songs and familiar choral works. Prior to the concert at Holy Family, the group will spend some time in an informal workshop with members of the Fond du Lac Children's Chorale, one of the sponsoring organizations for their visit.
The "Jeune Choeur Polyphonique de l'Ariege" (Young Polyphonic Choir of Ariège) started as a choir course at a junior high school in Foix, a community in the Ariege department (county) of France. It grew into an "association" in order to allow all the young people of the Midi-Pyrénées region to take part in its varied programs, which have included show concerts, holiday events, recordings and film credits. They have performed throughout the region, and tours have taken them to Paris, Angers and Brittany in France, as well as Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.
This summer, the choir's first American tour will include performances in Carthage, Ill., Fond du Lac, Milwaukee's Bastille Days; Flint, Mich.; and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, which has arranged the tour as part of their exchange program.
The Blue Lake International Exchange Program is dedicated to promoting peace and understanding through the universal language of the arts. Since its inception in 1969, nearly 30,000 young European, Asian, and American artists have exchanged performances and experienced the wonder and excitement of living with host families in a foreign land. More than 110,000 families in Europe and America have provided generous hospitality for the participants. Countless concert-goers on both continents have also been touched by these goodwill ambassadors.
The French choir is the fourth Blue Lake touring group to be hosted by the Symphonic Band and the Fond du Lac community since 2009. Holy Family Catholic Community and the Fond du Lac Children's Chorale are co-sponsoring the project, and the guests are being hosted in private homes during their three-night visit.
The group will also perform at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10 at Buttermilk Creek Park, as part of the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band's "Family Night" event.
