Kids address hunger awareness in contest

Nearly 500 local students participated in a contest to bring awareness to hunger in the community.

Students were invited to submit a poster, essay or poem addressing hunger and were encouraged to tie a service project into the effort. A "penny war" raised $1,200 for the Ben's Wish Weekend Backpack program, which sends food home for the weekend with students in high-poverty school districts, and five schools held a food drive for the Brown County Food & Hunger Network
