During sunny central Wisconsin summers, taking children to a local beach can seem like a perfect family activity.

Many parents know of the need to apply sunscreen and to make sure children don't enter water that's too deep for their swimming abilities.

However, those aren't the only potential dangers. Bacteria in the water can turn a happy day at the beach into a trip to the doctor. That's why the Wood County Health Department, with assistance from the county Parks Department, does what it can to make sure the water in beach areas is safe. ...
