June 30, 1953 - Band concert Thursday night: Celebrating its 50th year, the Green Bay City Band will hold its first concert of the summer season in Whitney Park, July 2. There will be 45 musicians, including most of last year's band members, with some new ones. The will have new uniforms, the first change in 30 years.

Concerts will be given at Whitney Park throughout the summer, together with July 4 and Labor Day concerts at Bay Beach. Through the efforts of the park board, a new bandstand will be erected.

At the last meeting of the board of directors, William Johnson again was named manager, and Ernest Stiller conductor for the coming season. Don Barber, who acted as master of ceremonies at last year's concerts, will take over again this year.

The band originally was organized in 1903 by Prof. M.J. Heynen, who will participate in a feature program later this season.
