Strawberry season off to a late but solid start

Jerry Schimke makes a point to get out to the strawberry fields at Altenburg's Farm every year, and on Tuesday, he was busy loading two flats into the back of his car.

Schimke said he has been coming to Altenburg's for about six years, typically returning a few times and taking home about 70 pounds, which he freezes to enjoy throughout the year. He said he has been eating strawberries for a long time, noting that his first job was picking them for his uncle as a child in Michigan for 6 cents a quart.
