State 2nd worst in providing dental care for poor children

When it comes to the delivery of dental care to children from low-income families, the only state ranking worse than Wisconsin is Florida, according to a study by the Pew Charitable Trusts released last week.

About 71 percent of the Medicaid-enrolled children in Wisconsin didn't see a dentist in 2011 as compared with 75 percent in Florida, the report said.

Wisconsin spends less than 1 percent of its Medicaid budget on dental care, said Monica Hebel, past president of the Wisconsin Dental Association. ...
