OSHKOSH - The number of area college students pursuing a career in teaching has fallen 25 percent since state lawmakers drastically altered collective bargaining laws three years ago.

There were 1,389 education majors at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh during the spring 2013 semester, according to campus enrollment data. That's down from 1,849 education majors during the fall 2009 semester, the last full term before the contentious union law sparked tens of thousands of protestors to deluge the state capital.
