July 1, 1935 - Icks resigns as city clerk: August W. Icks, a city official for the last ten years, announced today that he had resigned the office of city clerk, effective at once. He had no statement to make regarding his reasons.
Miss Mabel Peterson, deputy clerk, was attending to the duties of the office today. It is expected that some action toward the appointment of a successor may be taken by the council tomorrow evening.
Mr. Icks first became a city officer in 1925, when he was member of the 3-man commission during 1925 and 1926. After the change in government, he was appointed assessor, resigning that office to become receiver of the South Side State Bank, a post he still holds. He was elected City Clerk two years ago after a nomination from the floor, and had held that office since.
