LETTER: Billboards are distracting to drivers

We hear so much these days against texting and driving and I am all for that. I can't believe there is a text worth risking your life to read, but I think there is another driving distraction we should be just as worried about and it has been a problem even longer.

I am talking about billboards. They are everywhere. It seems like a requirement to have them every few feet on the highway and they are not just there anymore. You can find them along town roads as well.

I think this is a terrible trend for just like trying to read a text while driving, trying to read a billboard is just as dangerous for both take your eyes from the road. And now things have gotten worse with signs that flash and change on you so that you are trying to read not one but two or more ads as you pass by. Even our police station has one of these signs.

I think this is something that needs to stop. We already have ads on our televisions that take longer to watch than the show. You can turn on your radio and drive to your destination without ever hearing a song and I have even been to places where they don't even leave you alone in the public restroom.

Enough is enough. I think we can do without billboards.
