The Door County Destroyers were a hit both on and off the field in their debut Saturday.

Behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Nathan Smithson, Door County's new semipro football team beat the Lincoln-Way Patriots of Illinois, 27-13, in front of about 300 fans at Baileys Harbor Recreational Park.

"Overall, it was a great first game for us," said co-owner Chris LeCloux. "The turnout was better than we expected. We were hoping for 200 fans and we sold 250 tickets, plus there were a lot of kids who were (admitted) free. We're expecting even more than that now for the rest of the season." ...
