Contract electronics manufacturer Plexus Corp. has laid off 35 workers.

A company spokesperson said Tuesday the layoffs are a result of the normal course of business at Plexus Corp. but declined to elaborate further. The company employs about 9,600 worldwide, including about 2,000 in Neenah.

The company is nearing completion of a new $50 million manufacturing plant in Neenah.

Plexus in November announced it had lost one of its major customers, California-based Juniper Networks, a data equipment maker, which represented about 16 percent of the company's revenues. The company at the time said it would continue making product for Juniper the next six to nine months, which gave it time to find other customers to replace the lost work.

Plexus expected to earn between $220 million and $270 million in revenues from the final year of its Juniper contract, which was less than a previous projection of about $320 million.
