LETTER: Animals thrown out like garbage

I'm writing to vent about a situation.

A few weeks ago someone dropped off cats and five kittens on our country road. They were left to fend for themselves. The kittens obviously were used to people since they came running out to "kitty-kitty."

I took them to the Fond du Lac Humane Society and was told they only take animals from the "city." I have paid Fond du Lac city taxes for almost 24 years (which always increases yearly).

This is the first time I"ve ever had to take strays to the shelter. I was told if our "town" had a contract they could take them, but "for a fee." Our town does not have a contract. I was on my own to find homes for the kittens.

Yes, I ran a free ad and yes, I was lucky enough to have nice people take them. But what a system, what a bunch of runaround is this? The phone number for the Dodge County Humane Society? I'm in Fond du Lac County. A contract with the town? Wow.

I believe not living in the city just cut off any future donations. I believe that I'll also have to make up a story of any stray animals that they were abandoned in the city.

You people that throw your animals out like garbage, how shameful. Get them fixed.
