Mastermind of burglary spree gets 20 years in prison

The man behind a string of burglaries last summer in northeast Wisconsin that netted tens of thousands of dollars of cash and merchandise has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

John C. Birk, 47, will then serve 12 years of extended supervision, Oconto County Judge Michael T. Judge decided on June 26. Birk's address was listed as both Oconto and Green Bay at various times in 2011 and 2012, according to online court records.

The prison term was five years more than what was recommended by the prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General Eric Defort. ...
