Several weeks ago, at the tail end of a rare home-cooked meal, my husband announced that I need to take archery lessons. I swiftly cleared his plate out from under him while he muttered something about "carpe diem" or "c'est la vie" or maybe "that's amore."

But honestly, I think really he's worried that, as impending empty-nesters, we have darn too little in common to be considered lifemates on the road to retirement.

That night, after much discussion propped up against pillows during the three minutes before my husband nodded off, I decided powering up my inner Pocahontas during archery ...
