The ninth annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Lobster Boil was a resounding success, with net income up $13,000 from the previous year. "That means more children will receive mentoring services for an entire year because of the success of this event," said Kay Vandervort, BBBS executive director.
The event, presented by Agnesian HealthCare, Charter, and Sunny 97-7, brought in a net of $30,000. Silver sponsors included: Shea Electric, Fox Valley Savings Bank, Whispering Springs Golf Club, Grande Cheese Company, The Goldsmith, and Mercury Marine. Table sponsors were Saputo Cheese USA, Riley Electric, Bob and Bonnie's Donuts and Cakes, Quad Graphics, JF Ahern, and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
The vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters is that all children achieve success in life. The mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Vandervort said, "We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers, child-serving human service agencies, the schools, and others in the community. We hold ourselves accountable for each child in the program achieving: higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships." The agency, according to Vandervort, also focuses on helping children learn skills that help them avoid risky behaviors, and take positive steps toward educational success.
