Fifteen Mishicot FFA students, chaperoned by Jamie Renier Propson and Terri Wilfert, recently attended the State FFA Convention in Madison.

They attended the 2013 Career Show with vendors from agricultural companies who talked about their business and career opportunities as well as fundraising options.

All of the students attended workshops based on their interests, including global agriculture, advocacy, farm business, leadership and more.

In preparation for career and college readiness, the group toured a variety of facilities including UW-Madison Short Course, Henry Villas Zoo, Crave Brothers Farmstead and UW-Madison Poultry Facility.

Students also donated their time by packaging food at the Rally to Fight Hunger and working with Kids Against Hunger and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Lane Gosz and Derek Krejcarek served as delegates for the Mishicot chapter and voted on state issues, served on task committees and voted on the next sectional state officer.

While at the convention, the group also competed in the High School Quiz Bowl Contest, testing student knowledge of the agriculture industry and FFA.

Mishicot award winners included: Three Star Leader, Kelly Wilfert; Fruit Production SAE Proficiency first place, Kelly Wilfert; Agricultural Sales SAE Proficiency sixth place and sectional winner, Kelly Wilfert; Veterinary Science SAE Proficiency sixth place and sectional winner, Carissa Koeppel; Washington Leadership Conference Scholarship, Katelyn Ratajczak; P.R.I.D.E. Award for more than 10 new members; largest percentage of membership growth in Section 9; State and National Scholarship Winner, Kelly Wilfert; State FFA Degree, Kelly Wilfert, Andrew Hutterer, and Phillip Duveneck.

? The Mishicot Historical Museum is accepting orders for memorial boards for its boardwalk. Each board costs $50 with engraving. If you would like to purchase a memorial board, contact Duane at (920) 755-2567.

? The public is invited to join the Mishicot Senior Club and learn about tornado and fire safety from the Mishicot Fire Department. A guest speaker from the department will present safety information at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Mishicot VFW.

? The Cougars are scheduled to perform live music Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. outside on the grounds at Mishicot School District. Local Girl Scouts will serve concessions beginning at 5:30 p.m.

? The Pearly Gates Veterans Motorcycle Ride will make its way through Mishicot towards Fox Hills Resort on Saturday. The bikers should be coming through the village at about 1 p.m.

? The menu for the Mishicot Senior Nutrition site for the week is as follows: spaghetti with meat sauce on Monday, lemon pepper chicken with potatoes on Wednesday, Door County-style fish boil with bread and dessert and Friday. To cancel a meal call (920) 683-4180 at least 24 hours in advance.

? The Lester Public Library in Two Rivers brings its summer reading program to Mishicot Village Park on Monday. The public is invited to return and check out books from 1 to 1:30 p.m., followed by stories, crafts and games.
