Investors are seeking opportunities outside the financial markets to watch their dollars grow.

According to the Washington, D.C.-based Private Equity Capital Growth Council, private equity investment nationally reached $3.6 trillion the past 10 years. Today there are more than 2,800 private equity firms operating around the nation, the council said in its recent report examining private equity investment.
