If this professional football thing doesn't work out, Austen Lane might have a bright future writing about life in the National Football League - past and present.

Picked up off waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs a day after being cut by Jacksonville on June 13, the 6-foot-6, 275-pound defensive end served as a guest columnist for Sports Illustrated this week.

Lane filled in for the "Monday Morning QB" segment normally authored by Peter King, who is on vacation. ...
