Federal lawmakers, cranberry industry leaders praise new USDA rules

State and federal lawmakers and local industry leaders are praising a recent federal decision they say will keep Wisconsin's official fruit in school cafeterias across the country.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture previously considered requiring schools to reduce or eliminate cranberry juice because of added sugar, but recently released school lunch rules do not include that provision after feedback from members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation and Gov. Scott Walker, encouraging the agency to reconsider its position.
