The Wausau Balloon & Rib Fest is back at the Wausau Downtown Airport, 725 Woods Place. The combined event includes balloons, biplanes, a barbecue rib contest attracting vendors from across the country, a carnival, fireworks, pig racing and kite shows scheduled all weekend. Balloons will glow and perhaps launch, weather permitting.
Live music by Plan B will begin at 6 p.m. tonight. Consult the Briefcase will perform from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, and hear Hip Pocket from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
Get an early start to the festivities with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Head downtown for the 10th annual Chalkfest as artists transform squares of concrete into beautiful creations on The 400 Block. View hundreds of chalk art pieces and artists at work, or grab your own spot to draw for $20. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
