It's a feast for the eyes as local green thumbs open their gardens to the public.

Five homes are featured in the 2013 Garden Walk by North Central Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association Inc.

Garden Walk sites are on the west side of Wausau, in Edgar and two in Marathon.

The event is a great way to get gardening ideas. Garden Walk co-chairwoman Mary Caylor said the plants at the garden sites are labeled so it's easy to find out about particular plants and flowers you see.

Gardens are on view from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Purchase tickets for $10 from the UW Extension Marathon County, 212 River Drive, Suite 3 or at any of the homes in the tour. Proceeds will support the Edgar branch of Marathon County Public Library, Marathon City Summer Beautification program, YMCA Youth Summer Camp and Wisconsin Public Radio's Garden Talk program.
