Federal furloughs to affect about a dozen civilian technicians

In central Wis., only employees stationed at Wisconsin Rapids armory, maintenance shop affected

Roughly a dozen National Guard technicians in Wood and Portage counties will be furloughed for 11 days as the Defense Department carries out automatic budget cuts.

All of the affected positions will be in Wisconsin Rapids, with the majority of them being maintenance technicians at the Field Maintenance Shop and a few administrative and supply personnel with the 120th Field Artillery at the Wisconsin Rapids armory, said Maj. Paul Rickert, director of public affairs for the Wisconsin National Guard.

Personnel at the armories in Stevens Point and Marshfield will not be affected, he said. ...
