One of the reasons why cooperatives were started and thrive today is because the members share in the negotiation power and stability that they have together rather than standing alone.

The farmer bringing corn to the co-op elevator can take advantage of storage capacity he couldn't build himself and also be able to sell his crop at a a more favorable time. Also, the farmer can buy fertilizer and seed by negotiating collectively through the co-op for the best terms.

Co-ops have been very successful and have a very low failure rate. Credit unions are another example of a co-op. ...
