Stevens Point to invest in new cameras for police cars

Stevens Point police will soon have a more functional camera system residents can expect will be running if they're stopped by police.

The department plans to buy the new cameras for its fleet that officials say will provide hard evidence for court and could prevent police misconduct.

The cameras will replace the old system, which was purchased in 2008 and is starting to become unreliable. The Stevens Point Finance Committee OK'd the department spending up to $45,000 on new cameras, though the system is expected to cost much less.
