Habitat changes fundraiser, plans silent auction

Habitat for Humanity of Merrill, Inc., will hold its 19th annual Habitat for Humanity Silent Auction and Raffle to on Labor Day at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

On this day, Habitat will hold the drawing for the raffle prizes, which will include the famous handmade/sewn Habitat quilt and some fine prizes.

Habitat is known for its annual household auction; however, the board has decided that this event will be replaced with a different kind of fundraiser in the Fall. Board members are planning an entertaining evening with music, food, prizes and a chair auction.

Merrill Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Its mission is to provide safe and adequate housing in the community. The affiliate and its members are all volunteers, with no paid staff.

The group plans to break ground for the 14th home built for a qualified partner family this summer. Partner families work with the volunteers on the home and are responsible for no-interest mortgage payments to Habitat, seed money for the next home.

Current members of the board of directors Denise Ziech, Eric Heeren, President Dennis Grefe, Secretary Trina Knospe, Treasurer Mark Mehlos, Maurice Schaus, Barb Adams, Vice President Richard Blake, Janet Reimann, Thomas Mueller, Robert Reimann and Michael Bergmann.
