It's fitting that Haley sits in on the interview, since, in many ways, she's the poster child for Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary's ambitious vision for a no-kill community.

A nondescript black and grey tabby with a sweet face, she announces her presence in the adoption room by jumping down from a shelf to do the prerequisite rubbing up of strangers and then curling back up on a fleece blanket and going to sleep. As one of HEA's longest residents - six years and counting - Haley gets "special privileges.''
