Recently, the South Wood County Hunger Coalition hosted United We Can at the Rapids Mall.

United We Can is a food sculpture contest to help raise awareness of hunger issues and food insecurity in our community. We had six local organizations and businesses create awesome sculptures, which resulted in more than 1,800 items being donated to local food programs.

Everyone did an amazing job, and we are looking forward to having even more teams participate next year. Congratulations to our winners: Cellcom, Solarus and Wood County employees.

If you would like to learn more about the South Wood County Hunger Coalition or United We Can, call United Way at 715-421-0390.

United Way of Inner Wisconsin will sponsor Lunch by the River on Aug. 8. This is the drop-off point for the "Stuff the Bus" school supply drive. With your help, we are trying to fill two or three school buses with school supplies.

To view the supply wish list, please visit our website at www.uwiw.org. You also could consider holding a workplace or family school supply drive. Help us give the kids in our area the tools they need to succeed by bringing school supplies to "Stuff the Bus."

It is amazing to think that we are more than half way through 2013. We already are gearing up for the fall campaign. We are very fortunate to have enthusiastic volunteers, compassionate donors and dedicated partner programs committed to making our communities a better place to live; partnered with an energized message, LIVE UNITED.

It is important for us to recognize that the need for our partner programs continues to rise. We need to come together as a community - come together and unite for the good of those who need us. If everyone gives a little we can change a lot, this is collective impact.

LIVE UNITED!
