West Nile virus found in Wood County

A dead blue jay in Wood County has tested positive for West Nile virus.

The Wood County Health Department reports the bird was found somewhere in Wood County on July 1, and is the first bird that has tested for West Nile in Wood County since surveillance for the mosquito-transmitted virus began this spring.

"The positive bird means that residents of Wood County need to be more vigilant in their personal protective measures to prevent mosquito bites," said Sue Kunferman, Health Officer/Health Department Director, in statement. ...
