Wis. GOP split over immigration legislation

Despite weeks of lobbying by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and other high-profile Republicans, the prospects of Congress overhauling immigration policies just got a whole lot dimmer.

House Republicans met Wednesday to try and reach consensus on a way forward, but all they appeared to agree on was that they won't take up the comprehensive legislation that passed the Senate.

Instead, they will break the issue into pieces and try to pass a slew of smaller bills - one covering border security, another covering an employer-verification system, for example. ...
