Northwoods businesses appear to be on the rebound after the long drought of the recession dried up tourist spending.

Though the late winter and rainy June were hard on northern Wisconsin businesses, the tourism industry has gotten back on track after the Fourth of July weekend - the most lucrative weekend of the year for vacation spots in the Northwoods, Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce Director Kim Baltus said.

While 2013 numbers won't be available until next year, Baltus said businesses don't have any reason to believe that visitor spending in the Northwoods won't continue to rise. ...
