A 19-year-old Wausau man accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl will spend one year on probation and a lifetime on the state's sex offender registry after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Tommie Rothenberger originally faced a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, a felony that carries a maximum prison sentence of 60 years. Rothenberger on Monday pleaded no contest in Marathon County Circuit Court to a reduced charge of fourth-degree sexual assault.
