Children and their families are invited to take lawn chairs and blankets to Friendship Park in Kronenwetter to watch the village's first outdoor movie.

The village will host the event Aug. 22 and feature the family-friendly, animated movie "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted." The park is at 2350 Sunny Meadow Drive.

Broadcast onto a portable 9-by-12-foot screen, the movie will begin at dusk. Valley Communities Credit Union will sponsor the event, and a Kronenwetter Cub Scout troop will sell snacks as a fundraiser.

In picking the movie, village officials asked residents to vote for the movie they'd like to see play via the village Facebook page. Among the choices were "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," "Escape from Planet Earth" and "Hotel Transylvania."

"Madagascar 3" won the poll with 47 votes. The movie is about a group of zoo animals attempting to return home after an escape from the New York Central Zoo.

Village Administrator Richard Downey said the goal of the free movie night is to add to the quality of life in the village and bring residents together. If the event is successful - Downey hopes to draw about 20 to 30 people - the village will host a series of outdoor movies next summer.

? The village of Weston and Wausau Area Disc Golf Enthusiasts will host an inaugural disc golf clinic at Yellow Banks Park in Weston.

The free event will take place at 10 a.m. July 20 and will teach children how to throw discs, rules of the game and techniques from experienced players. The first 32 children ages 13 and younger will receive a free golf disc.

Yellow Banks Park is along the Eau Claire River at 3903 Northwestern Ave. in Weston.
