Farming cooperatives plan merger

The United Cooperative in Beaver Dam and Hillsboro Farmers Cooperative in Hillsboro announced plans to merge Monday.

Voting members of the Hillsboro cooperative must approve the deal. If members agree, the merger will take effect Oct. 1.

The Hillsboro cooperative projects its 2013 revenues at about $60 million. United cooperative had sales of $643 million in sales in 2012, employing about 650 full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers.

United Cooperative has locations in Auroraville, Baraboo, Beaver Dam, Bonduel, Deerfield, Denmark, Gresham, Hartford, Horicon, Hustisford, Iron Ridge, Johnson Creek, Mayville, Pickett, Poynette, Prairie du Sac, Pulaski, Reedsburg, Ripon, Rock Springs, Sauk City, Shawano, South Beaver Dam, Watertown and Wyocena.
