New volunteer website launches

United Way of Inner Wisconsin's Volunteer Center announces the launch of its new website.

The domain name, www.volunteerinnerwisc.org, will remain the same, however, the Volunteer Center is using a new volunteer recruitment software, which will enhance the experience of both volunteers and agencies alike.

"The new software is called Get Connected," said Angie Loucks, United Way's Volunteer Center coordinator. "Many volunteer centers in our area are switching to this new software, and we've heard nothing but rave reviews about it. During a recent agency training, we received many positive comments as well. This software is easier to utilize, navigate and has a much more attractive look. We believe that these changes will encourage more agencies to post their volunteer opportunities ? and more volunteers to check in and find ways to share their talents. And, Get Connected is also more cost-effective than our old website."

On the website, volunteers can:

? Search for agencies they may be interested in volunteering for.

? Search for specific volunteer needs that would fit their skills and interests.

? Search for volunteer events, which is helpful for people who are looking for things to do on a specific date.

? Search for donation requests from the agencies.

? Invite friends to volunteer with them.

? Promote a volunteer opportunity if it's a cause they feel strongly about.

? Stay informed about the volunteer needs of a specific agency by "becoming a fan" through the website.

Volunteers can browse the website to look for volunteer information but they do need to set up an account to make contact with an agency through the website. One of the cool features of the software is the ability to set up an account and log in through Facebook.

Agencies, similarly, can post information about their organizations, their volunteer needs, any events that they need volunteers for and any donation requests. They can also post photos and a video of their agency. Agencies who post on the website do need to be an affiliate agency of the Volunteer Center and pay an annual $25 fee. However, the value of a volunteer is more than $22 per hour, so the agency can recover its investment very quickly.
