Gast column: A future for men's fastpitch?

When I saw a story in the Green Bay Press-Gazette about last weekend's Boys of Summer fastpitch softball tournament in Denmark, I immediately felt like I needed to hop in the car and take in a couple of games.

Unfortunately, the schedule didn't allow for it. Just like the sport, itself, too much seems to be getting in the way of what at one time was a popular summer pastime.

It's been decades since fastpitch softball, both men's and women's, combined to fill each weekday night at Sturgeon Bay's West Side Field. Now it requires a 50-mile drive to see a fastpitch game. ...
