School district's payroll surplus could fund future retirement costs

The Oshkosh school board is considering putting as much as $1.7 million in surplus payroll dollars into a trust fund to cover the cost of benefits for retirees.

The district ended the 2012-13 school year on June 30 with an estimated $3 million in unused operating dollars, Business Director Sue Schnorr told the school board's facilities and finance committee Thursday.
