Village bans use of Plover-Whiting Elementary School mezzanines

District will have to find solution for lost classrooms

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade attend Plover-Whiting Elementary School in Plover. Some of those students might have to attend class elsewhere this fall because the district is losing classrooms. The building is in violation of village building codes.

No students or storage will be allowed in the mezzanines at Plover-Whiting Elementary School this fall, village of Plover officials said.

During a Village Board meeting Wednesday, Village Administrator Dan Mahoney said a letter will be mailed to the Stevens Point Area Public School District this week stating the two mezzanines cannot be used for classrooms or storage space.

The village move comes after the School Board on July 8 decided against trying to build an addition onto the school. The village of Plover had agreed to let students remain in the mezzanines this fall as long as a more than ...
