County health insurance costs on the rise

An increase in insurance claims during the past 18 months will result in increased insurance costs for Wood County employees and taxpayers in 2014.

For 2013, county officials budgeted $13,840 for the equivalent of each full-time employee, said Mike Martin, Wood County Finance director. During a meeting of the Wood County Executive Committee on Friday, members approved increasing that amount by 5.75 percent, to $14,637 for the equivalent of each full-time employee. The county has 591 full-time equivalent positions.
