Family dog's barking alerts family to house fire

Jeff 'Jay' Wahlen, twins Grace and Hannah, Lillian, and Melanie Marth were sound asleep at 3 a.m. Tuesday when their dog, Daisy, woke them to alert the family that their home was on fire.

A Sturgeon Bay couple and four children credit their dog for alerting them early Tuesday that their house was on fire.

Melanie (Maccaux) Marth and Jeff "Jay" Wahlen, 642 Georgia St., were awakened around 3 a.m. by the frantic barking of their black lab mix, Daisy.

"We adopted her from a family getting rid of her because they said she had anxiety issues," Marth said, although she is usually calm. ...
