Pitcher Sam Forkert turned heads in the Door County League earlier this season, when he struck out an amazing 23 batters for the Sister Bay Bays in a 7-0 win over the Maplewood Mets.

Now he's making his presence known for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League, a highly regarded college baseball circuit that attracts players from all over the country.

Forkert, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound left-handed reliever, is 3-0 with two saves and a sparkling earned run average of 0.80. He's struck out 35 batters and allowed only eight walks and three earned runs in 332⁄3 innings pitched. ...
