Joanne Troupe isn't sure just what year this happened, but she remembers approaching the late Ruth St. John West at an "Art of Tablesettings" events, held at the Rahr-West Art Museum.

West, an avid gardener, was known for the beautiful gardens at her lakeside home, and Troupe just wanted to learn a little more.

"She told me I was welcome to see her garden anytime, but I can't believe I was that forward," Troupe recalled with a disbelieving laugh. ...
