Outdoor enthusiast and author Karyn Powers was drawn to the Wisconsin River Valley because of its similarity to the La Crosse area, where she grew up.

Powers has been the recreation supervisor for the Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department for more than 22 years, and she has traveled the world.

"I fell in love with the geology of the area and the river valley," she said. "I grew up with the Black River and the Mississippi River. I've always wanted to live near water." ...
