'Alice In Marshland' event at Horicon center appropriate for families with young children

The public is invited to "Alice In Marshland" at Horicon Marsh International Education Center on Aug. 4. The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. This fun event is for families with children under 12 year of age.

Activities include face painting, tea cup guess game, croquette, ring toss, mini cake walk, lunch/tea party, Alice in Wonderland cartoon, a nature "make and take" craft, pocket lady and more. One of the highlights of the event is that there will be professional stories from LaCrosse, WI telling their stories each half hour.

Each child also receives a nature-related book. Workers will be in costume. Activities will be inside and outside the Education Center. In case of rain, all activities will be inside.

Storytellers include Sara Slayton and Terry Visger. Sara is well-known for her warm and knowledgeable approach and for her love of the art of storytelling. She is the co-founder of the Bluff Country Tale Spinners - a local storytelling guild, the chairperson of the La Crosse Storytelling Festival, and the Wisconsin State Liaison to the National Storytelling Network.

To learn more about Sara you can visit her Website at www.slaytline.com. Terry taught elementary children for many fun-filled years. She is now an adjunct instructor at Viterbo University, where she teaches others to be teachers.

She is an active member for the Bluff Country Tale Spinners and am on the board of the La Crosse Storytelling Festival and WISGET, a Wisconsin storytelling group. Bring your child for an afternoon of fun and imagination! Tickets are $12 for adults; and $8 for children, and includes all activities. Tickets are available at Horicon Marsh International Education Center and all Horicon Bank branches in Dodge County. Call 387-7890 for more information.

The gift shop will be open as well as the trails at Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Come and spend the day!

Proceeds from this event will benefit Horicon Marsh International Education Center and the wildlife education program there. The event is being held by Friends of Horicon Marsh International Education Center and their sponsors.
