Matthew Haggard hadn't played baseball for six years.

A former catcher at Jacksonville State University, Haggard gave up his baseball career and took a full-time job when his mother passed away during his freshman year in college. But his passion for the sport never left.

The urge to put on the chest protector, facemask and shin guards at least one more time was too hard to resist. A part of him still wondered if he had what it took to earn a living playing the game he loved. ...
