EDITOR: The transit forum on Thursday hosted by North Central Area Congregations Organized to Make an Impact, or NAOMI, will provide a venue for a community conversation concerning the future of public transportation in the greater Wausau metro area; it's the reason NAOMI's bus task force is hosting the forum.

We've established the importance of affordable, accessible transportation within our community, but as municipal budgets continuing to tighten, funding the bus becomes a challenge. The transit sales tax proposal provides an interesting possibility involving the shift of revenue from property tax to sales tax.

NAOMI felt this proposal was worth talking about, but clearly it needs to be a community conversation where all perspectives can be explored in a collaborative way. This is why the business community, city officials, legislators, community service organizations, citizens and bus riders have been invited to join in the conversation.

Public transportation plays an important role in the vitality of our community. Please consider joining the conversation and attending the forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the UW Center for Civic Engagment, 625 Stewart Ave. in Wausau.

Jean Abreu,

chairwoman, NAOMI bus task force,

Wausau
