Wausau City Council never voted on extending TIF

A handful of local leaders are irked that Wausau employees and Mayor Jim Tipple lobbied to change the law on the city's behalf without elected leaders voting on the proposal.

The law, signed by Gov. Scott Walker earlier this month, will extend the life of a special taxing district in Wausau by 10 years. That means property taxes collected in the district, which includes Dudley Tower, Eye Clinic of Wisconsin and a Pick 'n Save grocery store, will go toward funding economic development along the Wisconsin riverfront and not into general funds.
