We don't have a red carpet to welcome you, but we do have a new layer of blacktop on Highway 98. The train tracks are even new, so you won't get jolted as you cross them.

Next week, Aug. 1, 2 and 3, the Spencer Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual community-wide garage sales.

The last couple yof ears have seen in excess of 50 garage sales. Whatever the weather brings, we hope you make the journey anyway.

Many people go to great lengths to display their treasures. I am sure many of them have your name attached to it somewhere. Call yourself a bargain hunter or a scavenger, it makes no difference.

You could even don the label of "picker." I know there are many experts out there. The challenge is dangling in front of you.

Come visit our neighbors and families. You can drive your cars or trucks. You can travel by horse and buggy or even a tractor if that is what makes you happy. Just make sure you a lot of storage space. We wouldn't want you leaving us disappointed because you had no way of getting that prize item home.

Thursday is the busiest of the three days.

There will be maps available for you. They can be picked up after Monday at the following locations: Spencer Village office and the library (105 Park St.), Burnstad's Market and Kwik Trip (both located on Highway 13).

St. Theresa Circle and St. Catherine Circle from Christ the King Church will be serving barbecue and pie in the Lions Shelter starting at 9 a.m.. They sure do make some delicious tasting pies. You don't want to miss it, especially if you have been treasure hunting and you need a break.

We look forward to seeing you next week.
